Googlie Eyes-How Far I've Fallen
![]()
Today, I still try to have the kids work with wool yarns, wooden knitting needles, wool felt blends, cotton embroidery flosses and beautiful fabrics. I think crafting is all about your senses...how it looks, how it feels, how it sounds and that a child's experience can be enhanced by using really "delicious" materials. We should remember just because they are kids and their crafts may not look as polished as an adult's, it is no less important to them and probably something they will have forever. I believe kids, more than anyone, deserve good materials. It sets the tone for the rest of their life on the quality of their crafting.
However, I've also come to believe that kids want faces on their animals, they want glitz in thier yarn, they want to sew with some really shiny poly fabrics and they want googlie eyes. I guess what I am getting at is: however you choose to work with kids, don't cheat them on quality because they are kids but also don't judge the googlie eyes.
